Cancer Biology student wins prestigious predoc to postdoc bridge grant

Fourth year Cancer Biology student Payal Tiwari was awarded a new and prestigious NIH National Cancer Institute F99/K00 Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Transition Award. This award was established to identify and encourage outstanding graduate students to commit to pursuing careers as independent cancer researchers.

The NIH allows each university to nominate only one predoctoral candidate for this grant. Tiwari will receive two years of funding as a doctoral student, and when she secures a postdoctoral position in her chosen area of research, she will be eligible for up to four more years of generous support from the NCI for further training and career development. Tiwari is investigating the link between obesity and triple negative breast cancer. Her advisor is Dr. Marsha Rosner.
