On April 23, the BSD held its first annual Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) retreat. Organized by a committee of students and post-docs, the virtual retreat was attended by over 200 BSD faculty, staff and students, and featured a keynote interview with Valerie Jarrett, former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama and a distinguished senior fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. Jarrett was interviewed by Christina Roman, a graduate student and co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Initiative Team (GRIT). To encourage honest and practical discussions, many of the sessions were not recorded. However, select content and materials, including the keynote interview, have been posted to the website
